Sony Entertainment’s upcoming flick, Highlander reboot has hit a roadblock again after its lead star, Ryan Reynolds of Green Lantern fame, left the team. In a similar dramatic outcome, director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo had earlier left the team, citing creative differences.
According to inside reports, the new director of the sci-fi flick would now be able to cast a new face for the film, rather than carry on with the actor decided by his earlier colleague. This would also offer freedom to the new director on several grounds, without sticking to the casting choice of an erstwhile director.
Reynolds joined the team to play the immortal sword-wielding Scottish hero, Connor McLeod, on screen. The immortal hero led a brave front against the brutal and evil Barbarian forces under the leader Kurgan.
However, sources are telling that leaving the flick would not hurt the career progress of Reynolds. The actor would be seen in upcoming ‘Selfless’, a thriller by Tarsem Singh. It is to be released on September next year. Apart from this, the star has also bagged a role opposite to Jeff Bridges in R.I.P.D by Universal and even lending voices to the main character of ‘Turbo’.
Highlander reboot is penned down by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. The latest draft of the script was figured by Noah Oppenheim. Apart from them, Melissa Rosenberg also contributed to the script in 2011, while Justin Jin was initially raked up to direct the movie in 2009.
For the time being, everyone is waiting to hear the name of the new director’s choice as the main hero of the film.
